The deeply personal new single honors her late grandmother and gives voice to the immigrant experience, exile, identity, and resilience.
Acclaimed Cuban-American singer-songwriter, producer, and Latin Grammy winner Lena Burke returns with one of the most emotionally powerful releases of her career: “Veo Veo,” the second single from her highly anticipated upcoming album, set for release this summer.

More than a song, Veo Veo is a heartfelt tribute to the millions of immigrants, exiles, and displaced individuals around the world who carry their history, memories, and dreams wherever they go. Inspired by Burke’s personal journey as a Cuban immigrant, the song explores the emotional complexities of leaving one’s homeland while holding on to identity, hope, and belonging.
At the center of the story is a deeply intimate moment. Burke wrote and later sang Veo Veo into the ear of her paternal grandmother, Borja, during the final moments of her life. That experience became the emotional foundation of a song that speaks not only to personal loss but also to the universal experience of separation, migration, and resilience.
“This story is not only mine,” says Burke. “It belongs to every person who has had to leave their country in search of freedom, opportunity, or a new beginning. It’s for those who left, those who dream of returning, and those who continue carrying their homeland in their hearts.”
Co-written with celebrated songwriters Mónica Vélez (Mexico) and Covi Quintana (Dominican Republic), Veo Veo begins with a powerful lyrical image: ‘I carry suitcases filled with emptiness, memories, hope, and dreams.’ From that moment, the song unfolds into an emotional narrative that captures the reality of life in exile—the feeling of belonging everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

The title itself is inspired by the beloved childhood game “Veo Veo” (“I Spy”), which Burke played as a young girl growing up in Cuba. For the artist, the phrase represents imagination, innocence, and hope during a time when material possessions were scarce, but dreams were abundant.
Musically, Veo Veo showcases a new level of artistic maturity for Burke. Produced by Lena Burke alongside renowned producer, recording engineer, and mixing engineer Carlos Álvarez, a multi awarded grammy winning music industry veteran, the track blends intimate storytelling with cinematic production.

In a first for Burke’s solo recordings, the song features a sweeping orchestral string arrangement performed by the prestigious Budapest Scoring Orchestra, adding depth, elegance, and emotional intensity to the composition.
The release arrives at a time when conversations surrounding immigration, cultural identity, and belonging continue to resonate across generations and communities worldwide. Through its universal message and deeply human perspective, Veo Veo has the potential to connect with audiences far beyond Latin music, offering a soundtrack for anyone who has experienced departure, loss, reinvention, or the search for home.
With Veo Veo, Burke delivers one of her most personal and meaningful works to date—a song that transforms a private family story into a universal anthem of hope, remembrance, and belonging.
Veo Veo is now available on all major streaming platforms.
